I’m on the team at Granger Community Church as Pastor of Arts and Teaching, which means I have the unbelievable privilege of leading our arts teams in the audacious effort of mustering all the beauty we can conjure to show our world a glimpse of who God is, what He has done, and what He calls us to.  Most days it feels like I have more questions than answers, but art is equally good for the seeking and the declaring.  There was a day when common didn’t mean ‘ordinary’ as much as it meant ‘shared’, and I’m hoping we can share something in the seeking here.

i wish i were at GCC right now...

but a flu bug had a different idea for how I should spend my Wednesday.  So I've been getting reacquainted with my couch, my trash can, and my bathroom.

Tonight in our Journey Bible Classes I was going to wrap up our class on Psalms.  It's a little bittersweet because I don't know of a class I've had more fun teaching.  There's nothing in our human experience that doesn't find its way into some part of those songs.  They embrace the tension of moments that feel sacred and holy standing right next to earthy, hateful, painful, confusing places in our lives.  They resist the easy answers that we think we want, and instead they give us the very thing our hearts are begging for: something real.

But the content is really secondary.  The real reason it sucks to be stuck on my couch right now is that I love my church.  There isn't a group of people with more hunger or love for God.  They make me better whenever I'm with them.  Their trust in me as one of their pastors is something I don't take for granted.  I'm missing them tonight.

Dr. Bob is covering for me (thanks DB!).  I know he'll bring it.  I know the class will get more than they bargained for.

But I sure wish I were there.

We missed you, too, Jason! DB was great, as always. I am curious how you were going to end the class, though. Hope you feel better! I'll be praying for ya.
